FLANEURZ WAS IN BARCELONA
Flaneurz was in Barcelona alongside the roller derby teams competing for the men’s world title at the National Institute of Physical Education from Thursday, April 5, to Sunday, April 7, 2018: an opportunity to discover and try out some models from the Ready-to-Roll collection.
We thoroughly enjoyed supporting the French team from our spot, located above the main track and offering a panoramic view of the matches. The first days were dedicated to pool matches, followed by the quarter-finals in the subsequent days. Among the 25 national teams present, the French secured 4th place, behind Australia, England, and the USA, who won the title. Derby players from around the world clipped and unclipped our skates. The origin of this international recognition? The €30,000 goal during the campaign Kickstarter, reached in less than 8 hours. Filipinos, Europeans, and even Japanese skaters—many know us through our e-shop. However, they were surprised by the simplicity and practicality of the system integrated into the soles of our models. Ready-to-Roll Collection. Players particularly appreciate our Roll-Line supplier which, by the way, was our neighbor at the stand during this competition. The Italian brand is a global leader in artistic skating and well-established in the roller derby world. Roll-Line supplies the main components for the Premium range, enabling technical, intensive, and ambitious skating. The frames are precise and durable, while the wheels are chosen for their responsiveness. Flaneurz truly offers an appealing and efficient alternative for urban mobility.
Derby is played indoors on an oval track. Two teams of 5 players compete over two 30-minute periods, each divided into segments of up to 2 minutes called "Jams." A team consists of a pack of 4 blockers and 1 jammer. The jammer is identifiable by the two stars on their helmet cover. Their role is to complete laps to score points for their team by successfully navigating through the opposing pack. The first jammer to break through the pack is designated the Lead Jammer, giving them the ability to end the jam (which lasts a maximum of 2 minutes). Derby is a demanding sport that requires agility, speed, and strength.
The atmosphere was lively, and several French players regularly move around the city with Flaneurz on their feet: Samir (jersey number 31) and Gato (jersey number 322) in Nike Air Force One Premium, Spider-Biscote ( dossard 17) in Adidas Top Ten Premium. These are the two most popular pairs among roller derby players, who use them in their daily lives. Flaneurz was in Barcelona, offering visitors the chance to try out the Prêt-à-Rouler Collection. The Flaneurz Nike Air Force One in the Premium range were available for testing and impressed users with their comfort and optimal support. Designed, like the Nike Air Force One, for intensive use, the Adidas Top Ten also caught the attention of visitors. Resembling the Adidas Americana from the 1970s, their retro style won over the most passionate enthusiasts. We also showcased the Dr Martens Newton on our stand, designed more for urban mobility. They won over fans of the brand by combining the comfort of a Dr. Martens shoe with the know-how Flaneurz.
Visitors enjoyed trying on, clipping, and unclipping these pairs when Flaneurz was in Barcelona. Discover our models by visiting oure-shop, or come visit us during the open house at our Sk8lab! Our newsletter will keep you informed about upcoming events! The next World Cup will take place in July 2020 in Saint Louis (Mississippi). Until then, Flaneurz is ready to relive the experience (Women’s Roller Derby World Cup, Playoffs…) and attend future roller derby events. See you soon!
