/STEP 1: STAND UP AND START SKATING

Before you begin skating, it’s important to feel stable on your feet.

  • First of all, equip yourself with your roller skates and your protective gear.
  • Then, place your feet shoulder-width apart and slightly bend your knees.
  • Then, keep your weight centered, with your arms slightly forward to stabilize your body.
  • Finally, take a few small steps to feel the gliding motion.

/STEP 2: HOW TO FALL AND GET BACK UP SAFELY

Falling is part of learning. However, knowing how to fall without getting hurt is essential.

  • As much as possible, try to fall forward, never backward.
  • Don't forget to use your protective gear (especially wrist guards and knee pads).
  • To get up properly:
    1. First, get on all fours.
    2. Then, place one foot flat between your hands.
    3. Finally, push with the other leg to straighten up.

Najete teaches you to fall without risk and to get back up with ease:

/STEP 3: HOW TO BRAKE ON ROLLER SKATES

Knowing when to stop is just as important as knowing how to move forward.

  • Start by using the brake at the back of a roller skate (called a "toe stop").
    • Slide gently while keeping control.
    • Then, shift your weight slightly to the other foot.
    • Gradually apply the rear brake to slow down.
  • Furthermore, practice on a smooth and flat surface.

/STEP 4: HOW TO SKATE BACKWARDS

Once you are comfortable moving forward, you can learn to move backward.

  • Start by slightly turning your torso to better position yourself.
  • During the exercise, keep your knees bent and your gaze forward.
  • Then, push alternately with each foot in small movements.

/STEP 5: HOW TO TURN ON ROLLER SKATES

Turning on roller skates requires good body control and a bit of practice.

  • First, gently lean in the desired direction.
  • Then, shift your weight towards the inside of the wheels.
  • Finally, stay bent and keep your gaze in the direction of the turn.
